This is quite an unusual Austrian tall case grandfather clock. Late 19th/early 20th century. The dial is signed: Johann Tyrichter Wien. The carved walnut and burl walnut case surmounted by a rocaille flourish over a tall rectangular case flanked by two classical maidens enclosing a square gilt-metal dial with Roman and Arabic numerals. The dial also has seconds sub-dial over one single drawer and one single hinged door cabinet raised on scroll feet suggesting an Art Nouveau style. The clock with a three train, manual wind movement. Very interesting striking with 1or2or3or4 strikes on each quarter hour and then the number of hours following with a different gong tone. First I have seen in 40 years of selling clocks. Very high quality gong sound; crisp and delicate. Note the embossed weights and bob face. Retains the original door key. Approximately 92" H x 24.5" W x 12.75" D. From the West coast estate of Harry J. O'Connor III. As with all of our clocks, clock has been properly serviced and is currently running.
