This is a most unusual item, only the second I have ever owned. It is a French panetiere. This piece was used as a storage piece for bread after it was baked in the morning. Usually fancy ones liked this would be moved to the dining area and then bread would be served from it during the day. Many times now it is used as an end table, night stand, or pedestal. This one is heavily carved and has decorative finials on the top (2 missing but still balanced without them). Lock on door (key included). I believe this is the original finish in good condition. Overall size is 38 high (to top of center finial), 31 wide, and 16 deep. Although it has legs, they were sometimes hung on the wall and this one does have a hook on the back.
