This is a very fine pair of Albert Roosenboom oils on canvas Comprises two painting as follows: 1.) Two girls in a courtyard with kittens in apron. Mother cat looking on. Signed bottom right. 2.) Two girls on a pathway shielded under an umbrella. Signed bottom right. Both contained under glass (paintings not touching glass) in very fine period (I believe original) gesso frames. Albert Roosenboom was a student of the famous painter Constantin Meunier. Roosenboom was considered as one of the finest Belgian painters of genre scenes. His oil paintings represent interiors, romantic scenes of children at play and lifestyles of 19th century Europe. Frames are in excellent condition with just minor losses to the gesso. Both signed again and inscribed on verso "The undersigned declares that this picture has been painted by himself to the order of A D Huyvetter (?) fr of Antwerp...Antwerp/Brussels 1884". It is then signed A. Roosenboom. Approximately 12 3/4" x 9 3/4"; Frames: 23" x 20". I see no repairs or punctures to the canvas and no evidence of inpainting. I am assuming the two young girls are Huyvetter's daughters but do not know that for certain. I am also assuming these two painting have spent their entire life together and therefore would prefer to sell them as a set.
